THE CREATION OF SHOWBOAT Wednesday, January 18 at 1:30PM.  A multimedia presentation by Charles Troy, preeminent music historian and lecturer.  Will include music, lyrics, photos, film and video clips, telling the back story of the collaboration of Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein ll.  This  1927 masterpiece is being revived by the Lyric Opera in February.

TIME OF YOUR LIFE PLAYERS: “Let’s Have Fun With This”*  Wednesday, January 25, at 1:30PM.  Join us for this light-hearted musical comedy that tells the story of a theatre company going rogue and discovering an untold tale of love and life. PAGE TO SCREEN  Thursday, January 26, at 1PM.  A book discussion and film discussion…rolled into one epic event!  This month we feature “THE KITE RUNNER’, film directed by Marc Forster based on the novel by Khaled Hosseini.  Enjoy an interactive discussion of both the book and the film (screening highlights of the film) led by noted book discussion leader, Judy Levin.

MOVIE MUSIC: “Oscar Winners and Losers”  Thursday, February 2nd at 1:30PM.  Worthy and often influential scores that were not nominated, or nominated, did not win, and some that did win. Well-known Arts and Entertainment journalist Dorothy Andries presents a compelling exploration of the most memorable (and a few forgettable) tunes from the silver screen.

IRVING & ANNIE, COLE & KATE Wednesday, February 15 at 1:30PM.  Join Charles Troy for his musical multimedia presentation of Berlin and Porter, good friends who inspired each other.  Porter’s work for Merman served as guides for Berlin’s wondrous score for “Annie Get Your Gun”.  As for Porter, what propelled him to write such a terrific score for “Kiss Me Kate”?  You”ll find out!

SPOTLIGHTERS PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP 1** Tuesday, February 21-March 20, 10:30-12PM. , 5-week  series.  For seniors who love to perform and want to develop more confidence  in vocal performance and stage movement.  Lift your spirit and voice with selections from great movie musicals suited to your individuality.  You’ll share your talents with an audience last day of class.  Conducted by Joyce Stern Greenberg, accompanist, Ester Hana.  **$100 for 5-week series. “THE LITTLE GIRL WITH THE GREAT BIG VOICE” Wednesday, March 21, at 1:30PM.  Producer, vocalist  Rob Dorn’s multimedia presentation explores Judy Garland’s early career from 2-year old scene stealer to MGM star with all the thrills, happiness and heartaches that went with it. “STORIES ABOARD THE TITANIC” Tuesday, April 3, 10:30AM.  For the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, Chicago actor and historical dramatist RJ Lindsey portrays NY Times Managing Editor, Carr Van Anda.  Includes a slide program detailing the ship’s construction, the dramatic maiden voyage, and several personal passenger stories.
