Audition Notice for JUNGLE BOOK at the Goodman Theatre!

Description:
From the imagination of Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman comes a dazzling new musical adaptation of a timeless favorite that's sure to enchant audiences of all ages. The jungle springs to life in a kaleidoscopic song-and-dance-filled spectacle that chronicles young Mowgli's adventures growing up in the animal kingdom. Based on Rudyard Kipling's time-honored children's tales and featuring music from the classic Disney film, this spellbinding world premiere is the theatrical event of the season.

Accepting submissions for the following roles:

YOUTH PERFORMERS: 
Mowgli (Male, Indian or Southeast Asian. Also will consider other actors of color. Should read 6-8 yr old) Small, spunky, independent, stubborn, unafraid, thinks he can manage when he really can't. A live wire, sparkly, charming, young boy. Singing is not required for this role. 

European Boy/Ensemble (Male, White European, should read 6/8 yr old) European opposite of Mowgli. Likely silent, pasty, reading the story we are seeing. Glimpsed in the jungle, perhaps, in his Victorian garb. Mostly non speaking, but very expressive. Should be the same rough size/body type/etc. as Mowgli. A mirror to Mowgli. Singing is not required for this role. 

Princess/Ensemble: (Female, Indian, Southeast Asian. Also will consider other actors of color. 10/12 yr old) strong vocalist (Soprano) required, strong dancer/mover, expressive, beautiful young girl, warmth, kindness, exudes the very best of human kind.

Time Commitment: 
First Rehearsal: 4/30/13 
First Tech: 6/13/13
First Preview: 6/21/13
Opening Night: 7/1/13
Closing Performance: 7/28/13
Possible Multiple Extensions: 8/4/13, 8/11/13, or 8/18/13

Description:
A Red Orchid Theatre announces auditions for participation in its spring youth ensemble production. The company is proud to join a coalition of over 15 Chicagoland theaters, the Chicago Public Libraries and Facing History and Ourselves in response to the issue of youth violence in our neighborhoods and schools. Directed by Megan Shuchman, Steppenwolf for Young Adults Theatre Education Manager, the ensemble will develop originally devised work on the subject of youth violence and bullying as it relates to your personal experience and those around you. With a three week production slated for April and May at A Red Orchid Theatre, rehearsals will take place beginning in January and last 3 hours a day, 2 days a week and involve acting, movement, improvisation, writing, music, professional guest artists and much collaboration.

-Audition open to all youth and all levels of acting experience ages 12-17 

-Personal experience with youth violence not necessary. 

-Willingness to examine and speak with others on the topic required.

Taking classes at ATC has changed my whole persepctive on acting and has shaped me into the actress I am today.
