The On-Camera Audition with THE HURT LOCKER Casting Director Mark Bennett
Mark Bennett's intensive On-Camera Audition Workshop has actors prepare scenes from film and
television as if for a real audition. The focus of the workshop is to treat “auditioning well” not as a
skill separate from “acting well”, but rather as a natural extension of the actor’s craft, one which places
the emphasis on how best to present material with a minimum of info and prep time; how to make clear but
organic choices to make one’s audition stand out; and how to interpret “result-oriented” direction in a way
that results in a fresh, three-dimensional performance. Also discussed are techniques for cold reading,
audition-room protocol, and negotiating the industry.
Mark is currently casting the HBO pilot The Miraculous Year for director Kathryn Bigelow and
writer/producer John Logan. Before that, Mark most recently cast Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker. Other
directors Mark has cast films for include Jane Campion, Allison Anders, Martha Coolidge, Matt Aselton, and
Christopher Munch. Previous associate credits include films by Gus Van Sant, Lasse Hallstrom, Oliver Stone,
John Waters, Mary Harron, Whit Stillman, and Harmony Korine. Mark also cast Mac’s popular
“I’m a Mac”/”I’m a PC” campaign starring Justin Long and John Hodgman, and has cast theater in New York,
both Broadway and off-Broadway.

-----
"Even though I've only done one workshop at ATC so far, I've loved it and can't believe I haven't done this before!"
-----
"Thank you so much for presenting the Workshop with Deborah Dion. My son learned so much from the class, and couldn't believe how kind Deborah was!"
-----
"Just wanted to get back to you all. Danielle REALLY enjoyed the acting session with Deb Dion!"
-----
"I just wanted to drop you a note to say how much my daughter enjoyed the weekend workshop. Your instructors were so knowledgeable and caring. She just booked the lead title role in a short film. While prepping for her audition, she had her notebook out to review her notes from the course. It really built her knowledge base for on-camera."

"It is important to me to have the talent I represent learn from actual casting directors who are working in the city. That is why I recommend classes at ATC, that are taught by casting directors like Steppenwolf's Erica Daniels, and TPR's Mickie Paskal and Jennifer Rudnicke."
